Music To My Ears
I’m a dirty old Hip Hop man at heart, although my vinyl collection contains a plenthora of artists ranging from John Farnham to Muddy Waters not much excites me more than scouring the liner notes of a fresh Jay-Z or Eminem album.
With that being said, what follows is a list of non-hip hop artists/bands that I have come to appreciate over the recent summer months. Call it what you like…..Alternative Rock, Pop music, a guilty pleasure or absolute garbage……I enjoy it.
………and remember kids no 2Pac before 10am!!
- Chromeo: Synths and keys stolen directly from your mums favourite 80s movie, how could one not like the musical musings of these two ecentrics.
check also the songs ‘Momma’s Boy’ and the cover of the Eagles classic ‘I Cant Tell You Why’.
- Kids These Days: Dont know much about these bright eyed and bushy tailed bunch from Chicago, apart from the fact that both singers have good pipes, although solid they could possibly do without the rapper and their horn section is awesome.
See also ‘My Days’.
- Arcade Fire: Apparently this band from Montreal is big in the Alternative music catergorey at least thats what wikipedia.com says, their track below is quite nice.
Wikipedia also recommends ‘Wake Up’
- Adele: Like a wholesome Amy Winehouse this volumptuous, not so traditional pop starlit from London-town has stuning pipes and emotive vocals, her live performances are top drawer as seen below. Your Missus will love her.
See also ‘Chasing Pavements’
- The Black Keys: A Blues/rock duo hailing from some hicktown in the States, i liken them to the White Stripes but a little more subdued and minus the matching red jumpsuits.
their most successful tune ‘Tighten Up’ produced a pretty sweet little music video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mpaPBCBjSVc&feature=fvw
Go forth and Listen.
Church.
