Finishing work and getting too drunk with your mates on a Friday night is a pastime that spans the generations. Here are some great examples of what got 20 year old’s fist pumping, sweating and (for the lucky ones) scoring.

1930′s

Look out for the guy on Ecstasy playing the double bass.

Glenn Miller – In The Mood

1940′s

Was there a War on? The Andrews Sisters had a very rare disease that meant they could only ever walk as a three. Once one was out of the others sight, they lost control of their legs, kind of like Kermit from the Muppets.

Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy – The Andrews Sisters

1950′s

While Chuck Berry’s Johnny B. Goode was the obvious winner and an emerging Elvis Presley & Johnny Cash are most certainly up there, I have gone with this wee skirt-raiser called Summertime Blues by Eddie Cochran.

1960′s

The Stones – (I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction. Enough said.

1970′s

Snort some cocaine, then you might get it…. or play it backwards – apparently it makes more sense that way.

Led Zeppelin – Stairway To Heaven

1980′s

Is miss Electric Avenue and I know it misses me. Glam Rock – Holy Hukanui swears by it.

Bon Jovi – Livin On A Prayer

1990′s

Yeah, over-sized woolen cardies, chequered shirts, hating the world, shoot yourself. Great song, great band. The only positive that came out of Kurt Cobain’s death was the Foo Fighters.

Nirvana – Smells Like Teen Spirit

2000′s

This song was HUUUUUGGGGGGGEEEEEEEE!!!! You can’t help but tap your toes.

Outkast – Hey Ya

2010′s (so far….)

Hate the game people, but this song has dominated. A particular highlight for me with this song is the whole of Wellington’s Westpac Stadium crowd singing along with this during the Sevens weekend.

Black Eyed Peas – I’ve Got A Feeling

You may laugh at some of these songs, but don’t laugh too hard. You may well have been conceived to one of these songs!! In fairness, it was more likely this one:

“Ninety percent of the people on this planet, especially in the West, were born out of a bottle of whiskey on a Saturday night.” – John Winston Lennon
